Bormio1475-2985m
Rated as one of Italys top resorts, the famous ski resort of Bormio is an ideal destinaion for a memorable ski holiday. It has a long season due to its high altitude skiing but also has a nearby summer ski resort, Stelvio, which acts as our snow guarantee. This classicle town does not easily betray that it is a mountain resort and ski area, but its range of skiing even supprised ski ace Framnz Klammer who once commented favourably on the lenth and quality of runs. THE SKIING There is some 80km of piste served by 23 lifts in Bormio itself but extended lift passes also give access to nearby resorts of Santa Caterina and Livigno to extend the area to 200km and 57 lifts. These are well served by shuttle buses. The ski area is almost entirely on one very large mountain, Cima Bianca and diveds into open snowfields above Bormio 2000 and broad, tree lined pistes below. It is sunny and very suited to beginners and intermediates with almost all runs graded either easy or medium. The 2 nursery areas at Bormio 2000 and Ciuk are reaches by cablecar and gondola and these superb runs offe easy progression aided by the efficient and friendly local ski school. From the top of Cima Bianca at 3000m are a selection of red and black runs taking you all the way back to the village, some 7 miles, and served by cannons on their lower level. One of these, the World Championship run, 'The Stelvio' is a challenge but within the capabilities of most better skiers. APRES SKI With a resort of the stature of Bormio it is not suprising that most form of apres ski activities are available including, swimming, skating, bowling, discos, tobogganing. The town itself has an ample array of shops, bars, cafes together witha spa centre. www.bormio.com
